Learning Objectives
- Resource judgment, observation, problem-solving, teamwork, practical planning, hygiene awareness, prioritization, patience, and understanding how to identify safer water sources.
Activity 1 (Water Source Ranking)
Data
| Field | Details |
|---|---|
| Age Limit | 10+ |
| Group Size | 4-10 players per team |
| Duration | 20-25 minutes |
| Prep Time | 5 minutes |
| Difficulty | Easy to Medium |
| Category | Indoor or Outdoor, Decision-making, Safety awareness, Team strategy |
| Items Needed | Picture cards or written source cards, paper, pens |
| Murabbi Rating |
Setup
Prepare 6 to 8 water source cards and place them in mixed order.
Use these source examples:
- Clean bottled water
- Covered water container
- Rainwater caught in a clean bowl
- Stream water near animals
- Dirty puddle water
- Water from a tap with no known issue
- Water collected in an open dirty bucket
- Water kept in a sealed container
How to Play
- Divide shabab into teams.
- Teams rank the sources from safest to least safe.
- Each team explains its top 3 choices.
- Murabbi gives points for correct reasoning.
Sample Answers for Murabbi
- Best choices are usually sealed, covered, or known clean sources.
- Open, dirty, or animal-access water sources are less safe.
- Clean appearance does not always mean safe water.
- Storage matters as much as the source.
Murabbi Notes
Do not present this as drinking advice for unsafe water in the field. The goal is judgment and recognition, not real purification training.
Activity 2 (Filter Build Demo)
Data
| Field | Details |
|---|---|
| Age Limit | 10+ |
| Group Size | 4-8 players per team |
| Duration | 20-30 minutes |
| Prep Time | 10 minutes |
| Difficulty | Easy |
| Category | Indoor or Outdoor, Build challenge, Science, Teamwork |
| Items Needed | Plastic bottle, sand, gravel, cloth, cup, muddy water sample |
| Murabbi Rating |
Setup
Set out the filter materials in advance and prepare a muddy water sample for demonstration only.
Use these build steps:
- Cut or open the bottle
- Add cloth at the bottom opening
- Add sand layer
- Add gravel layer
- Place bottle over a cup
How to Play
- Teams build a simple filter model.
- The murabbi pours the muddy water through it.
- Teams observe what changes and what does not change.
- Teams explain why the filter improved the water appearance.
- Murabbi reminds them that filtered water still needs proper safety handling in real life.
Creative Challenge
Ask teams to improve their filter by changing the order of layers and explaining why the order matters.
Sample Answers for Murabbi
- Bigger particles are usually caught first.
- Cloth helps slow the flow and catch larger debris.
- Sand helps trap smaller particles.
- Gravel helps support the layers above it.
Murabbi Notes
Keep the lesson visual and careful. This is a demonstration of filtration ideas, not a promise that the water is safe to drink.
